what i've been up to

I started a job at the start of January - Working at JCPenney. Surprisingly nice and I've had a ton more hours then I thought I would be - so I've been more thaen busy with that.

On the writing front - haven't worked on Nano novel sense the end of Nano. I did however get caught up in a new project.

At the end of January I started a shared world for a superhero idea.

Now in the middle of April, the world has grown so much faster and larger then I thought possible.

It's been fun creating characters, learning to write scripts.

Not so fun is hunting for new members and trying to find artist that want to work for free for a little while.

The groups hoping to use a Kickstarter Campaign to pay for artists and printing the actual comics.

Lots more to do though.

Learn about copyright and trademark laws and a whole list of other things.

Thinking to much....

I made the mistake (will not really a mistake) of reading an article at io9.com http://io9.com/5878720/how-to-create-a-brand-new-iconic-hero-or-villain and started thinking about creating a world for superheroes. Thus making me wonder if anyone wanted to do a shared world (sadly the last one I started feel apart, between Nano, the holidays and everything. everyone that joined up was so busy.) The idea is for a new and original take on superheroes and the world they live in.

So I've put some feelers out and I'll see what happens. I need to get back to do something writing wise, maybe making something that's not fully a fantasy (swords and magic) world I'll get back to doing something fun.

Comment if you want to know more.

The writing has been slow....

I didn't write much of anything in Jan. No idea why.

[info]mizkit just suggested doing a Nano in Feb. and I'm thinking of doing that. Just to get the Nano novel done.

We'll see how it goes.

I don't feel like I got a lot of writing done, but I did get through an edit on Fairies and Ghosts. I wrote 50K during Nano and kept up with Crits at DII and The Novel Club.

Goal for the coming year. Find some place to sale my jewelry that doesn't charge me more then I'm making from the jewelry. Start and write at least two novels (finish nano book) and edit at least two and get one ready for agents. well see how that goes.

Nano and Computer problems

First day of nano started out good. 2000 words after writing nothing for months. Yay.

Turned on computer for Nano Day 2 and the computer decides to buzz for hours :\. It had been buzzing for a few minutes every time you turn the computer on, then stop. So I really didn't think much of. But after Nano day 2 and the hours of buzzing I knew something wasn't right.

Thankfully I had just gotten some extra money from a full week of work so I was able to bring it into the computer doctor. Needed to be dusted and a new power supply. Done in 6 hours. (I dreaded that it would take days!!)

Thankfully it wasn't as much money to fix everything as I thought it was going to be. Yay. And that I could get it fixed now and not later or later when the computer really crashed.

Didn't loose anything. Even though I scrambled on the 1st backing up novels and maps and outlines and bunny photos. Between flash drive and drop box I had hoped I got everything important.

Computer is running nicely now. Nothing lost. And moving the tower made me actually clean off the computer desk. (Wow as it dusty ugh).

Nano and computer problems go hand in hand. Glad I was able to catch this one before everything fell apart.

Back to writing now.

In Person Writer’s Workshop

Utah has a League of Utah Writers. Every year they have a “Roundup” a state wide get together. This year it’ll be in my city.

The price for the whole thing is a lot out of my price range $180 for the full day of workshops, lunch and dinner. It’s extra if you want to talk to an agent or the editing group that’s going to be there.

The group in my city meets two times a month. I haven’t gone mostly because it sounds like no one there writes fantasy or urban fantasy. It seems like more of a straight fiction group. At least from the bio’s I’ve read on the site. Membership for the group is 25$ a year.

On the bright side you can get into the morning work shop for just 36.00 without a membership to the group.

Morning workshops include:
Anyone can write and sale a novel part 1 and 2
Problem, the core of the story.
Dialogue, it’s not just people talking
The Myth of the muse, brainstorming through writers block
Writing the west
Horror and dark fantasy writing
Voice and style part 1 and 2
Tips on selling and promoting your writing
Whipping up a poem
Writing action

It seems like a lot of money, but I’m hoping I can swing it. I have a big art fair coming up on the 5th. Hopefully I’ll be able to have extra money left over from that to be able to go to this workshop. I would love to take the afternoon classes as well, but that’s another 36$ *ugh*

Hopefully I’ll sale enough jewelry on the fifth to at least go to the morning classes! That or suddenly sell a few clay plot bunnies!

(no subject)

Everyonce in awhile I start thinking and once I get started I can get that thought about of my head.

That said I'm looking to start a shared world group, maybe 5 to 8 people that can create a world, creatures, magic, history, etc. The world could be used for gaming or novels.

Post here or email me at magicalbookworm@gmx.com

I started a shared world a few years ago and it ended up focus more on the writing part and that was great, but I really want to try and focus on the world part of this project before the writing starts. I hope it'll turn out a lot differnet then the last shared world.
